14 yard skip

14 Yard Skip Falkirk

A 14-yard skip is ideal for bigger domestic house clearances as well as business projects such as medium-sized office clearances, small warehouse clear-outs, and store refits that require the disposal of bulky, awkwardly-shaped light commercial-type waste such as lengths of wood, metal, plastic, and oversize cardboard packaging waste. The fourteen cubic yard – also known as a maxi skip – is a popular choice with commercial business clients in and around Falkirk and the Forth Valley.

The beauty of this skip is that for a small increase in overall footprint compared to a standard 8 yard skip you are getting a much greater waste disposal capacity which offers a saving over hiring two normal builder’s skips.

Please note, however, that this skip is not suitable for heavier construction-type inert waste.

What types of projects is it hired for?

The 14 yd maxi skip offers generous capacity so is useful to a range of clients with greater amounts of waste to dispose of.

It is perfect for clearing out entire houses for both private householders and landlords or for those clearing a larger property following a bereavement as it offers generous waste capacity and dimensions that permit the disposal of larger, more awkward waste items.

Commercial enterprises and public-sector organisations often hire this model to clear old stock, dispose of waste from shop fitting or strip outs, handle large amounts of packaging, and/or get rid of obsolete office furniture and/or equipment.

How much waste can it handle?

A 14-cubic-yard skip can hold the equivalent of 140–150 ordinary black bin bags.

What size is it?

The dimensions of a fourteen-yard skip are as follows:

In metric, the dimensions are 4m long x 2m wide x 1.8m high (approximately).

13 ft 1 in in length, 6 ft 6 in width, and 6 ft 6 in height (approximately).

Can I put any kind of waste in there?

The 14 cu yd maxi skip is designed to handle commercial and light industrial waste such as cardboard, paper, plastic, metals and timber. It is also suited to general domestic household waste such as old furniture or units.

What types of waste are prohibited?

This skip cannot be used for the disposal of heavy building waste such as soil, stone, rubble or concrete.

Other prohibited items include:

Liquids (including paints, oils, and fuels), mattresses, chemicals, large volumes of carpet, and electrical equipment should not be discarded in a skip designated for general waste. Because most electrical devices require specialised equipment to decommission (e.g. refrigerators, freezers, televisions, and monitors), they cannot be dumped in our standard waste skips.

Additionally, products containing asbestos (or suspected asbestos) and medical waste (syringes, blood tests, soiled nappies) are prohibited. If you are unsure about any items you intend to put into the skip, please contact us to check.

Is a council permit necessary?

A 14 cubic yard skip is only slightly larger than a standard 8 cubic yard skip so should typically fit onto the majority of customers’ driveways or gardens. However, it is important when hiring any of the larger sizes that you check that it will fit into your available space to save a wasted journey and unnecessary expense and hassle.

We always recommend the customers who can, site the skip privately off the street whenever feasible. This helps to minimise the likelihood of people throwing their own waste into your skip, or engaging in “skip diving,” which can result in your waste being disturbed and left on the road.

If you do not have access to private land and must place the skip on the public highway or other public land, you will require a skip permit. You can order and pay for one directly through your local government. This process can take up to two weeks, and you must obtain the permit before receiving the skip; otherwise, you can be subject to heavy fines. When ordering, always ensure that the permit includes enough time for you to complete your job comfortably before the skip must be collected.

The Falkirk Council website contains information about the fees and other requirements associated with putting a skip on the road or public land.
