8 yard skip Falkirk

8 Yard Skip Falkirk

The 8-yard builder’s skip is the type that most people think of when they hear “skip,” and it’s no surprise that it’s the most popular among our Falkirk-based clientele. It’s both compact and adaptable, capable of handling large amounts of common household or heavier construction materials, as well as commercial waste (non-hazardous). It’s also known as a large builder’s skip (as opposed to a small builder’s skip, which is 6 yards).

What types of jobs can it be used for?

Construction-type waste created by home modifications such as extensions, garage or loft conversions, and replacement kitchens is often disposed of by both DIY’ers and builders in an eight-yard skip.

It is also used by landscaping, driveway, and gardening companies to remove green waste and heavier materials generated during these projects.

It is ideal for flat clearances, loft clearances, and estate clearances following a bereavement for both private consumers and landlords. It has the capacity to handle larger, bulkier waste than midi or mini skips.

This strategy is used by commercial firms and public-sector organisations to dispose of excess inventory, waste from refits, and dispose of office furniture and/or equipment that is no longer needed.

How much waste can it handle?

The equivalent of 70-80 regular black bin bags can be stored in an 8-cubic-yard skip.

How big is it?

The following are the dimensions of an eight-yard skip:

3.1m long x 1.9m wide x 1.6m high in metric (approximately)

10 ft 2 in long, 6 ft 3 in wide, and 5 ft 3 in high (approximately).

Can I put any kind of waste in there?

These skips can manage a wide range of waste, from typical home waste from a house or loft clearance to green waste, such as tree trimmings, soil, and plant materials, to heavier construction waste like stone, roofing materials, brick, and concrete (this is the largest skip size that we hire out for such heavier building-type waste due to the weight involved).

What types of waste are prohibited?

Liquids (including paints, oils, and fuels), mattresses, large amounts of carpet, and electrical appliances should not be thrown away in a general waste builder’s skip. Decommissioning of most electrical products necessitates the use of specialised equipment (e.g. refrigerators, freezers, TVs, monitors) so these cannot be placed in our general waste skips.

Additionally, no asbestos-containing (or suspected asbestos-containing) materials and medical waste (syringes, blood tests, soiled nappies) are also forbidden. If you have any doubts, please call us before putting your items in the skip.

Is a council permit necessary?

A builder’s skip will normally fit onto most customers’ driveways or gardens, and we always advocate positioning it off-road whenever possible, since this keeps it out of the way of others dumping their own waste into your skip and “skip diving” and interfering with your load.

You’ll need a skip permit if you don’t have access to private land and must place it on the road (public highway) or other public land. You can order and pay for one straight from your local authority. This procedure can take up to two weeks, and you must receive the permit before the skip is delivered, otherwise you will face legal action. When ordering, make sure you allow enough time on the permit for you to complete your job comfortably before the skip has to be taken away.

The Falkirk Council website has information on fees and other requirements for installing a skip on the road.
